Department of English is the pride and glory of Baring College. It is the oldest and the biggest department in the college and has the distinction of imparting education to the maximum numbers of students. However, it is not just the number but the quality of teaching for which the department ranks among the best anywhere. Since its foundation, the department has been pro-actively string to maintain high standards of academic excellence. To ensure a high quality of education distinguished scholars and guest speakers are invited to give lectures on the topic related to the course of study. the department library is one of the best of its kind in Punjab. It has an extensive and rare collection of books journals and research publication. PG students are encouraged to make the maximum use of these books in preparing assignments.

The department is manned by a well qualified and experienced faculty well versed in their field of study. The mission of the faculty has always been to create leaders winners and achievers who can set position in the civil services while many other are serving in India and abroad as dedicated academician and scholars.During the session the infrastructure of the department has been further updated by in corporation of a language laboratory furnished with the latest equipments. It will help the students to broaden their career prospective.The postgraduate wing of the department was founded in 1966. The foundation was laid on a very sold base by Dr Paul love, an American teacher of par excellence, whose example and legacy of total commitment, very high academic standards and uncompromising moral principles continue to be the guiding philosophy of the Department.

 

Department of Punjabi, which has been successfully engaged in teaching both compulsory and elective Punjabi to undergraduate students with hundred percent pass result, was upgraded to postgraduate level in 1995. Ever since, the Department has been getting excellent results. Our very first batch of M.A. Punjabi students captured the first five positions in the University and since then our M.A. students have been getting the top positions in the university every year and have been awarded with gold medals at the annual convocation of G.N.D.U. Many of our former students have qualified the UGC Test for Lectureship and some have even obtained the degree of PhD. The department is vigorously promoting literary interest among students through literary society, functions, seminar, assignments and cultural Programs.
